What Time Is The Sandman On Netflix? | Screen Rant

The highly anticipated The Sandman releases on Netflix on August 5th, 2022, and here’s precisely what time the fantasy horror series’ season 1 drops on the streaming giant’s platform. Based on the DC comics series of the same name by Neil Gaiman that ran from 1989 to 1996, The Sandman is jointly developed by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg. The Sandman season 1 comprises ten episodes, each of which will tell a different story while still contributing to the Dream of the Endless' (Tom Sturridge) story. A talented cast is involved in The Sandman season 1, including Jenna Coleman, Vivienne Acheampong, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Boyd Holbrook, Kyo Ra, Mason Alexander Park, and Game of Thrones’ Charles Dance and Gwendoline Christie, among others.

Netflix’s The Sandman is the last in a long series of attempted adaptations of the iconic comics series. The first proposed adaptation of The Sandman into a film involved a script by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott, which was later deemed “undeliverable” by one of the producers. William Farmer put together another script in 1998, but Gaiman objected to it because of the enormous changes it proposed to the source material, making its original story almost unrecognizable. A decade later, even Joseph Gordon-Levitt became involved in The Sandman’s adaptation as Sandman himself, but that film also didn’t move forward because of creative differences, and Gaiman revealed it was even suggested to them to adapt it into a TV show, something he always believed would have been better considering the type of story told by The Sandman.

Ultimately, the live-action TV adaptation of the beloved comic series was announced in 2019, leaving fans thrilled as creator Neil Gaiman announced he was involved in the entire creative process. Unfortunately, The Sandman was also one of the many TV shows whose production was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, making its onscreen debut later than expected. The Sandman season 1 will be available to stream on Netflix on Friday, August 5 at 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET/8 a.m. BST.

Netflix’s The Sandman will follow Dream as he finally frees himself from mage Roderick Burgess’ prison, only to discover that chaos has reached his kingdom, the Dreaming. The Sandman season 1 will see Dream trying to regain power and bring order to the Dreaming, while foes will oppose him as he looks to recover his powerful tools consisting of his helmet, ruby, and pouch of sand. The Sandman season 1 reportedly adapted the first two volumes of the comics series, Preludes and Nocturnes and The Doll's House.

The Sandman season 2 was confirmed ahead of the release of season 1, reassuring fans who have waited decades for the beloved fantasy comics to receive a live-action adaptation. Viewers and fans can also rejoice knowing that in addition to The Sandman season 1’s ten episodes, an extra one will be available, although its length isn’t yet known. Considering the turbulent history of The Sandman adaptation and the difficulties the Netflix show’s production faced because of the pandemic, it can only be openly welcomed that The Sandman season 1 will finally reach screens while fully embodying the complexities of the iconic comics series.

The Sandman premieres on August 5 on Netflix.
