What Carmy Will Use The Money For In The Bear Season 2

Creator Christopher Storer reveals what Carmy will use Mikey's hidden cash for in The Bear season 2. When the FX on Hulu series premiered in June 2022, The Bear received praise for its realistic portrayal of the chaotic food service industry and for its stars' performances. Shameless' Jeremy Allen White leads the series' ensemble cast as Carmy Berzatto, a young chef who leaves his position in fine-dining to run his family's sandwich shop in Chicago after his brother Mikey's (Jon Bernthal) death. The cast also includes Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Abby Elliott.

After an anxiety-filled season, The Bear season 1 finale ends on a hopeful note but leaves its viewers with questions. After Richie (Moss-Bachrach) gives Carmy Mikey's short farewell note, Carmy decides to prepare the Family Meal Spaghetti recipe on the back of it, following Mikey's advice to use the smaller tomato cans. In these cans, Carmy and his staff find the cash from the $300,000 loan Uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt) gave Mikey. This discovery leads Carmy to close his family's restaurant and open a new one, The Bear. When FX and Hulu announced that the series was being renewed for The Bear season 2, viewers were left wondering how Carmy would use that money in the next season. Would he start paying back Mikey's debts or use it for seed money for The Bear?

Indie Wire asked The Bear creator Christopher Storer these same questions. Storer answered in a surprisingly candid response that hints at what's to come in season 2. The show creator revealed that the money will definitely be used to seed the new restaurant, but Jimmy will still need to be dealt with. Read Storer's full response below:

There’s something beautiful in the idea that Carmy could have found this right off the bat if he would have made the spaghetti in the pilot, but then maybe he would have burnt out similarly to the way Michael did. I think by not discovering this immediately, he really learned the difficult lesson that not only was he sort of trying to “fix” this restaurant for all the wrong reasons, but that he also couldn’t do it himself. He finds in Sydney someone he had a shorthand with. They will definitely use this money as a seed, but Jimmy will be in the mix.

Storer's response teases at what The Bear season 2's story will focus on. Although the discovery of the cash allowed Carmy a moment of relief from the pressure of maintaining his family's shop, he and his staff have a huge task ahead of them to open The Bear. There are certain to be just as many missteps made by Carmy in season 2, in addition to whatever conflicts he faces from Uncle Jimmy. There's also a possibility that opening a new restaurant together will cause more clashes with Sydney (Edebiri), who returned after quitting due to Carmy's poor treatment.

The Bear may have just recently been renewed, but it seems that Storer has a clear direction in mind for season 2. While his answer may not reveal many plot details, it is certain that Carmy's struggles with his relationships and his restaurant are far from over. Season 2 will probably jump right into the middle of Carmy's new struggles as the show did with season 1. Hopefully, The Bear's second season will be just as satisfying to watch as its first.
