MultiVersus: Steven Universe Character Guide (Best Perks & Strategies)

Steven Universe is one of two characters from his show that players can unlock in the new platformer fighting game, MultiVersus. Like other fighting platformers, MultiVersus brings together characters from different universes throughout Warner Bros. titles including Looney Tunes, Game of Thrones, Rick and Morty, Adventure Time, and more. In addition to bringing in recognizable characters, both cartoon and real, MultiVersus plans on creating new characters previously unknown to Warner Bros. franchises like Reindog.

Players can unlock new characters in three ways: spending 3,000 gold, using 700 MultiVersus Gleamium, or one character ticket. Gold can be earned by playing the game, completing missions, and finishing challenges. Gleamium is a premium currency that can currently only be bought for real-world money. Character tickets are being given away in the Founder's Packs, add-ons that players can buy through the relevant online stores to supplement the game.

Steven Universe is best played as a support character. The other support characters that are currently available are Reindog and Velma. Players who want to level up Steven Universe should take advantage of his ability to place obstacles and platforms that assist allies. Steven Universe can also heal and provide armor, being both a support and tank character like MultiVersus' Wonder Woman.

Players should focus on attacks and moves that serve as supports. Steven Universe is best played in a team, as his main role is to help other players. Below are a list of Steven Universe's best moves as a support fighter:

  • Move: Bubble Boy!, neutral + special - this sends out a tethered projectile that can attack enemies and cause a bubble debuff. If players knockback bubbled enemies, they won't be able to fight.
  • Move: Stop in the Name of Friendship!, side + special - Steven will send out a shield wall projectile, which blocks enemies. It it passes an ally along the way, they will get a short armor bonus.
  • Move: Shield Stepper, up + special - Steven holds a shield above his head and dashes up. This leaves a platform behind for allies to use, highlighting how Steven is an excellent support character in MultiVersus.
  • Move: Watermelon Steven, Go!, down + special - Steven plants a watermelon that creates a healing area for himself and allies. The watermelon will eventually explode into a Watermelon Steven that will assist allies in fighting.
  • Special Perk: Bounce Bubble - unlocked at level 8, this will extend an enemy's stun debuff and will knock them back further when knocking into Steven's wall or platform shields. This perk paired with the Shield Stepper make for a deadly combination.
  • Special Perk: Green Thumb - unlocked at level 10, Watermelon Steven from the Watermelon Steven, Go! attack grows larger and deals more damage the longer he is alive.
