Amazon Prime Now Includes A Free Year Of Grubhub Deliveries

Ahead of the Prime Day festivities later this month, Amazon announced a partnership with Grubhub that will enable all Amazon Prime customers to get one year of free food deliveries across the U.S. It will be one more perk for Amazon Prime subscribers who already get free priority shipping, access to Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Music Prime, as well as early access to Lightning Deals on Amazon, and more.

Owned by Dutch multinational food ordering and delivery company Just Eat Takeaway, Grubhub is one of the largest food delivery companies in the U.S., with operations in all 50 states. The company was founded in 2004 in Chicago and acquired a number of its competitors over the next decade and a half before it was itself acquired last year for a reported $7.3 billion.

According to a press release by Amazon, Prime members would now be able to sign-up for one year of free Grubhub+ membership as part of a new partnership with the Dutch-owned food delivery service. The offer is reportedly part of a deal between the two companies that will see the Seattle-based online retail giant take up to a 15 percent stake in Grubhub. That's according to Just Eat Takeaway, which said the deal would allow Amazon to buy a two percent stake in Grubhub at a nominal price and a further 13 percent at a "formulae-based price" depending on the number of new customers Grubhub will get through the new partnership.

According to Amazon's press release, the partnership would let Prime members access unlimited free deliveries from hundreds of thousands of restaurants on Grubhub across more than 4,000 cities over one year. Alongside free deliveries on Grubhub, Amazon also announced a couple of other new offers and experiences for Prime members, including an exclusive 60-second sneak peek of the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. In addition, Prime members in the U.S. will also be eligible for exclusive deals and early access offers on electronics ahead of this season's first Thursday Night Football game on Sep. 15.

Amazon's Prime membership is one of the most lucrative subscription services available, offering a lot of perks and experiences for the $139 asking price. The Grubhub+ membership adds to the laundry list of services that are already part of the Prime membership and should make it even more desirable for everyone concerned. In addition, Grubhub+ costs as much as $9.99 per month, meaning Amazon's offer can help Grubhub+ users save as much as $120 per year as part of the new deal.
