Loki Star Cast Opposite Kevin Hart In New Netflix Heist Film

Loki star Gugu Mbatha-Raw will lead the new heist film Lift alongside Kevin Hart. Netflix unveiled the project last fall, based on a spec script from writer Dan Kunka (12 Rounds). Men in Black: International director F. Gary Gray is on board to helm the film. Hart will play a master thief who gets roped into pulling off an impossible heist on a Boeing 777 flight from England to Switzerland. Now, new plot details and casting announcements present enticing possibilities.

Deadline reports that Mbatha-Raw will star opposite Hart as his character's ex-girlfriend, who, along with the FBI, convinces him to take on the risky job. It is currently unclear why an expert criminal would gamble everything for a federal law enforcement agency, but further information about the story could reveal those motivations. Mbatha-Raw comes off an impressive performance in Marvel's Loki as Judge Renslayer, who will be returning for season 2. In the meantime, it looks like she will channel some of the duplicity brought out as Renslayer in this new role.

Joining Mbatha-Raw and Hart are, Vincent D'Onofrio (Daredevil), Billy Magnussen, Úrsula Corberó, Yun Jee Kim, Viveik Kalra, and Paul Anderson. The international cast - or at least some of them - appears to be the crew accompanying Hart on the heist. Hart's company, HartBeat Productions, will produce along with Genre Pictures and Matt Reeve's 6th & Idaho (responsible for box office powerhouse The Batman). Mbatha-Raw's casting could support the idea that Lift will be a more sobering action thriller, an ongoing shift for Hart, who has been flexing his acting chops in recent dramas like Netflix's True Story.
