Elden Ring's Hardest Boss Accidentally Got Harder | Screen Rant

Elden Ring's latest update just made the hardest fight in the game even more difficult. Malenia is already one of the more challenging bosses, even if she can be avoided by players who want to complete Elden Ring's main quest line. There may be even more reason to do so now.

FromSoftware is known for creating incredibly difficult video games, and Elden Ring is no exception to this criteria. The game is littered with difficult bosses, but the consensus most difficult boss in the game is without a doubt Malenia, Blade of Miquella. Malenia's fight pattern lets her heal a portion of her health any time she hits a player, regardless if the attack is blocked. As long as the player comes into contact with Malenia's attack, the health regenerate. Although players can unlock a Rememberance and a new ending for Elden Ring, defeating Malenia was already a difficult challenge. Now, this task was made even more difficult after the latest patch.

As reported by Kotaku, the latest patch contains a bug that made Malenia's self-heal mechanic even more powerful. Now, Malenia restores health unconditionally. Malenia's attacks no longer need to hit the player in order to heal. A player's attacks could completely whiff and hit nothing but air and she will still restore health. While this bug will certainly be patched out of Elden Ring soon, it's providing a temporary roadblock to an already difficult obstacle for many players. Players have been pointing this out ever since the latest patch was released, such as Reddit user Demonboy995. In the video, Malenia does her signature Waterfowl Dance, a series of slashes that is extremely difficult to dodge and could restore a mass amount of Malenia's health if it connects at any point. Even though the player successfully dodged the attack, Malenia still healed. Demonboy995 also states that after being summoned 8 times after the patch was released, this still happened every fight.

The patch also came with other balances, such as changing how players approach PvP as well as the Malenia fight. The spell "Swarm of Flies" received a noticeable nerf, reducing the amount of blood loss buildup that it does. As Malenia is weak to bleed buildup, players are going to have to find another way to do mass damage to Malenia so long as this bug stays in the game.

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have yet to make a comment acknowledging the bug. It should be noted though that the last balancing update Elden Ring received did cause something similar where Radahn was unintentionally nerfed, and then restored to his usual glory in the next update. Malenia states in the first encounter with her that she "has never known defeat", and this bug makes sure that she never will. At least until this bug is fixed.
