90 Day Fiancé: Signs That TLC Will Never Care About Keeping Viewers Happy

Fans' vitriol towards the 90 Day Fiancé franchise is at an all-time high, but despite being regularly derided on social media, TLC shows no signs of initiating any real changes. The network has no reason to alter course, even though viewers are clamoring for them to do so, and they’re unlikely to change any time soon.

Since its inception, 90 Day Fiancé has become incredibly popular, and when fans couldn’t get enough, TLC expanded the franchise. Now there are over a dozen spin-offs and the franchise continues to grow. But fans seem to be getting more disgruntled with the show rather than becoming more invested, and it’s not uncommon to see harsh criticism about the franchise and TLC’s decisions. Though viewers have taken to social media in droves to air their grievances, nothing is likely to change in the franchise.

Many fans complain that the 90 Day Fiancé franchise shows can be very triggering when depicting physical and emotional abuse as well as with casting known abusers. But it’s better for the show when cast members are controversial, and the franchise is more profitable for TLC when viewers are upset. Every time a fan posts on social media to complain about the show, it creates more buzz, and more buzz means advertisers are more likely to throw their money at the network. Unfortunately for viewers who love to voice their opinions online, much of their ranting against the franchise only benefits TLC.

Calls to “cancel” cast members haven’t really made a dent in the popularity of the show or even inspire the network to make changes to the franchise. 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star Alina Kozhevnikova was recently fired by TLC for racist social media activity, but it wasn’t the win viewers had hoped for. Although many fans see Alina being booted out of the franchise as a success, Alina’s the only one who saw any actual consequences. There’s been no real fallout for the franchise or TLC, which the network sees as proof that there’s no financial incentive for due diligence and holding cast members accountable. Unless one of their scandals actually blows up in TLC’s face, nothing’s going to change.

No matter how much fans wish TLC would take 90 Day Fiancé in a different direction, it’s unlikely to ever happen. The network is probably just going to stay the course and continue raking in the dough because so far there’s been no controversy that has rocked the franchise to its core. Fans are definitely getting frustrated, but until they start to leave the franchise in droves, TLC won’t pay attention to what viewers want.
