Pokémon Legends: Arceus First-Person Trailer Looks Stunning

A new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus provides a first-person look at the Hisui region and its Pokémon, offering a stunning new perspective not previously explored in the main series. With less than a week until Pokémon Legends: Arceus releases, more details have been released that showcase the new direction the title will be taking.

Traditionally, Pokémon games have always had a camera following the player from a top-down or third-person perspective. The only exception to this would be the Pokémon Snap games, in which players take pictures of roaming Pokémon in the wild. New Pokémon Snap is praised for how beautiful the game looks, and its first-person perspective especially highlights this. The game serves to demonstrate how a different perspective can change how a game’s world is seen, and how it can provide new immersion for the player.

The new Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer, uploaded by the Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel, showcases the Trainer running through the Hisui region from a first-person perspective. It then transitions into the Trainer experiencing this perspective through rideable Pokémon such as Wyrdeer, Hisuian Braviary, and Basculegion, taking the player across the lush lands and soaring through the skies. The way the perspective is presented in the trailer highlights the world of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and teases what a full first-person monster-catching adventure could look like.

In the weeks leading up to the game's launch, Pokémon Legends: Arceus has leaked in multiple different ways, with copies of the game already showing up on auction sites like eBay. The full Pokédex, as well as previously-unrevealed Hisuian forms for the game, have also been shared online. This has happened for some generations now in Pokémon, with games often being datamined weeks ahead of release. Players who are attempting to avoid spoilers should take great care to avoid the leaks that are spilling out, but for those who are embracing the leaks, the details are in the open.

It’s still unknown whether Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be playable in first-person, or if the trailer is just a creative way to promote the game close to its release. Even if this is the only time the game’s world is seen from this perspective, the prospect of finding new ways to highlight the game world is an exciting one. In spite of the common criticism of modern Pokémon game graphics, it’s hard not to dream of how Pokémon Legends: Arceus and future mainline games could take advantage of this perspective. If first-person is possible, it would be yet another new way that Pokémon Legends: Arceus is advancing the series in a new direction.
