Halo 3 Battleship Forward Unto Dawn Accurately Designed In LEGO

A talented Halo 3 fan has recreated the UNSC battleship Forward Unto Dawn in LEGO form with a surprising amount of detail. Since Microsoft’s long-running sci-fi shooter franchise already has several building sets from Mega Bloks, it isn’t hard for dedicated players to create plastic tributes to various aspects of the Halo universe, such as Master Chief’s famous tattered cloak from the early Halo 5: Guardians trailer.

Meanwhile, the name Forward Unto Dawn is immediately recognizable to Halo fans. This UNSC Charon-class light frigate was first seen in 2007’s Halo 3, where it fought in the final battle against the Covenant army and the Flood. It would suffer heavy damage in that battle and be left adrift in space for four years, with the Master Chief housed in cryo-stasis within it until Cortana awakens him to combat a new threat during Halo 4’s opening level. What remained of the Forward Unto Dawn was destroyed completely upon reentry on the shield world Requiem, but the ship made several appearances in tie-in prequels like the Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and Halo Legends.

Reddit user TheNerdyOne_ recently posted several images of their impressive custom Halo 3 Forward Unto Dawn model onto r/gaming, which masterfully captures the look of the sleek battleship down to the UNSC insignia on the rear side. The ship even breaks apart like the real Forward Unto Dawn did at the end of Halo 3's story campaign. According to TheNerdyOne_, their Forward Unto Dawn model was made from 4,822 LEGO pieces and measures nearly 29 inches (or 73 centimeters) long.

Some commenters have noted that they would submit this model to LEGO’s Ideas program to be considered for an official set release (as was done for sets based on Kirby's Dream Land and even the PlayStation 2 console) but acknowledge that it could never be released due to the Halo license being owned by the aforementioned Mega Bloks. In the meantime, LEGO has been building its assortment of sets based on video games over the past few years, with such high-profile releases as the interactive LEGO Super Mario board game or a recently revealed set based on Sonic The Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone. That isn’t to mention the various unofficial LEGO models that gamers put together and show off online, such as the fearsome Leshen from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Although TheNerdyOne_’s Halo 3 Forward Unto Dawn model will likely never be an official LEGO set, it is a well-built, highly detailed recreation of the famous battleship that is certainly worthy of being sold in stores. At the very least, it would look great sitting on a Halo fan’s desk as they jump into another round of Halo Infinite multiplayer or step into the role of the Master Chief to ensure that the sacrifice of the original Forward Unto Dawn was not in vain.
