Leaked Samsung Galaxy S22 Photo Reveals Huge Design Changes

A supposed live photo of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S22 has surfaced on social media, revealing some notable design changes. The Galaxy S-series is Samsung's flagship smartphone lineup, typically launching in the first half of each year. Next year will reportedly be no exception, with Samsung expected to officially unveil the Galaxy S22 in February 2022 alongside the S22 Plus and S22 Note. These will be the successors to the Galaxy S21 lineup launched earlier this year.

In the lead-up to its launch, several details about the Galaxy S22-series have leaked online, including camera specs and possible pricing. Rumors also suggest that the top-end device in the lineup might be named Galaxy S22 Note instead of S22 Ultra as a potential replacement for the Galaxy Note line. The device is also expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, which has been confirmed to power the OnePlus 10.

The purported leaked image of the Galaxy S22 was shared on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo by renowned tipster Ice Universe. The image suggests that the device might have a glossy finish on the back panel instead of the matte back finish on the Galaxy S21. The glossiness indicates that it might be actual glass instead of the plastic on the S21. Another notable change seems to be the redesigned camera module, which ditches the current model's 'contour cut' design and adopts a protruding oblong housing instead. The flash can be seen right next to the camera housing at the top, while a prominent Samsung logo can be seen at the bottom.

Earlier rumors suggested that the Galaxy S22 will ship with a triple-camera setup at the back, comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Ice Universe had also earlier claimed that the Galaxy S22 would ship with a 10-megapixel selfie camera at the front. The same tipster also suggested that the Galaxy S22 will have a screen size of 6.06-inches, which indicates that it will have a smaller panel than the Galaxy S21, which comes with a 6.2-inch display.

Earlier leaks also suggested that the Galaxy S22 will likely sport a 3,700mAh battery with 25W charging support. If correct, this will mean that the device will charge a little slower than the Galaxy S22 Ultra and S22+, both of which are tipped to feature 45W fast charging. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S22 promises to be an exciting device and one that's probably worth waiting for. That said, these rumors are yet unverified, which means it's best to take them with a pinch of salt.
