Hawkeye Episode 6 Video Reveals Yelena vs. Clint Rematch

Florence Pugh's Yelena has a rematch with Jeremy Renner's Clint in a new video for Hawkeye episode 6. The season finale of Hawkeye is set to debut this week, which will see the return of Pugh's Yelena Belova, the sister of Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanov, aka Black Widow. Yelena was introduced in Natasha's solo film and reappeared in Hawkeye episode 4, taking on Renner's Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop, and Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez. In Hawkeye episode 5, Yelena confronted Steinfeld's Bishop, making it clear she was on a mission to kill Barton, as she blames him for the death of her sister.

Pugh has been climbing the Hollywood ladder in the last few years, appearing in a number of notable films, including Netflix's Outlaw King with Chris Pine, the wrestling biopic Fighting With My Family, Ari Aster's freaky horror film Midsommar, and earlier this year in Black Widow. The actress is starring in director Olivia Wilde's sophomore effort Don't Worry Darling, and will also appear in Christopher Nolan's next effort, Oppenheimer. However, Pugh has also embraced her newfound MCU roots as Yelena, a role that may open many more opportunities in that universe.

In anticipation of the season finale of Hawkeye, Marvel has dropped a new featurette that highlights the return of Pugh's Yelena. In the video, Pugh talks about her surprise in returning as Yelena for the Hawkeye series, saying she did not see it coming that she would be squaring off against Clint (although it was teased in the post-credits scene of Black Widow). Pugh notes that she was welcomed into the MCU by Johansson on Black Widow, but that jumping into the world of Renner's Hawkeye has been "just as sweet" and that it's "been a really good first two year in the MCU." Check out the full video below:

Johansson's relationship with Marvel/Disney was a shaky one earlier this year when she sued the company for the Black Widow dual release in theaters and on streaming, which affected her overall deal with them. The matter was resolved and Johansson is now producing a Tower of Terror adaptation with Disney, but the fate of her character in the MCU still stands. However, as demonstrated in the What If...? series, as well as the possibilities of the multiverse as demonstrated in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's always possible that Johansson could return to the role, even if it seems like Pugh is being set up to take over in some capacity or another.

The Hawkeye series has had the weakest start of any of the Marvel shows on Disney+ to date, trailing Loki by 40 percent in viewership. One of those reasons could be the overabundance of characters in the show, which includes a trove of new and returning characters, including Yelena, as well as Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, who is making his first appearance after debuting in Netflix's Daredevil series. Yelena, however, has been a breath of fresh air to the series and a welcome addition rather than an unnecessary distraction. Hopefully, her appearance in Hawkeye will lead to bigger and better things within the MCU, as Yelena is one of more compelling characters to enter the MCU of late.
