Pokémon BDSP: How to Trade for Edition Exclusives | Screen Rant

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl include exclusive Pokémon that can only be obtained in one of the two versions. In order to get every Pokémon and complete the National Pokédex, players will need to trade with someone that has the opposite version. For some, that can mean searching online for strangers willing to trade away their exclusive Pokémon, but there is an easier way to find reliable trades.

Players looking to obtain every version exclusive Pokémon will need to complete multiple trades. The first way, and more risky way, to do this is to search for someone offering an exclusive Pokémon. Unfortunately, there's no way to verify that a player will follow through or trade the Pokémon they claim to be offering. Instead, players can head use codes dedicated to finding and coordinating trades for specific Pokémon.

There are two different types of trades players can utilize. If there's someone nearby to trade with, players can complete a local trade by going to a Pokémon Center and taking the stairs on the left. To search for a trade in the Global Room, head to the stairs on the right side. Both types of trades can be completed by searching for a random player or by using a specific code or group. The option to trade only becomes available after defeating BDSP's first gym leader, Roark.

Specific Link Codes have been compiled for trainers to easily complete predetermined trades. Using the designated codes will ensure that players can trade and receive specific exclusive Pokémon. The code uses each Pokémon's National Pokédex number as the trade code. The first four digits are for the Pokémon that players want to trade, and the second half of the code represents the Pokémon they want to receive. For example, if players have Pokémon Shining Pearl and want to trade Zapdos for Raikou, they can use the code 0145-0243.

To complete a trade, players will need to select Call in the Union Room. This will bring in another trainer for players to trade with. Interact with the other player, then select a Pokémon to trade to them. Players will be able to see what Pokémon the other person is offering and both parties need to confirm the trade before it's finalized. After the trade is completed, players can continue trading with the same person or leave the room to end the interaction.

Alternatively, if players are having trouble finding trades, they can wait until Pokémon Home is connected to BDSP, and then trade various Pokémon from other games they own such as Pokémon GO. However, it's currently unknown when this function will be available. Players that want to quickly fill out their National Pokédex will need to complete trades with their friends or other players online for version exclusive Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
