Resident Evil Movie Alt Trailer Reveals Why Claire Returns To Raccoon City

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City alternate trailer reveals why Claire Redfield returns to Raccoon City. Kaya Scodelario portrays video game character Redfield in the new reboot of the Resident Evil movie franchise.

The original Resident Evil movie series of course deviated wildly from the games that allegedly inspired it, largely eschewing survival-horror in place of over-the-top action, with Milla Jovovich in the role of action heroine Alice. Welcome to Raccoon City on the other hand will provide a more games-accurate experience, closely adapting the first two installments in the original video game series. Going back to the games for inspiration of course means focusing on characters familiar from those games, including Claire Redfield, the heroine introduced in Resident Evil 2.

Redfield indeed is the main focus of a new international Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City trailer that just came out in the wake of the official trailer that dropped earlier this morning. Among other things, the new clip addresses the issue of Claire’s unexpected return to Raccoon City after what seems like it was a long absence. See the clip in the space below (via GSCinemas):

The trailer indeed begins with Scodelario’s Claire hitchhiking her way into Raccoon City and getting a ride with a truck driver. But the ride quickly turns tragic as the truck runs over a random person who’s wandered into the road. Ominously, the driver’s dog laps at some of the person’s blood, an obvious tease of the zombie dogs that show up in the Resident Evil games and are featured in the new movie as well. The trailer then cuts to Claire arriving in Raccoon City, where things have taken a bad turn thanks to the evil Umbrella Corporation. In one moment, Claire’s brother Chris (Robbie Amell) asks her why she’s come back to Raccoon City and Claire indicates she’s there to investigate the sinister goings-on in Umbrella Corporation’s labs. The trailer then shows exactly the kind of things that have been happening at Umbrella, including horrifying experiments on humans perpetrated by the evil William Birkin (Neal McDonough).

All this definitely makes Welcome to Raccoon City seem like a genuine survival-horror movie much closer in spirit to the old Resident Evil games. Fans of those games will certainly get a kick out of watching Chris and Claire Redfield team up to take on Umbrella Corporation and the horrific monsters spawned by their unspeakable research. Of course there are some who might honestly miss the old Resident Evil movies and the sight of Jovovich’s Alice doing her action heroine thing. For them, the games-inspired zombie horror of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City might seem a little too sane and reasonable.
