James Gunn Reveals Funny Original Drawing Behind Rick Flag Shirt

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn shared the original doodle he created while brainstorming what Rick Flag's Ultrabunny T-shirt would look like. The DC Extended Universe film, which is the second to feature the Suicide Squad team and the third outing for Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, came out on August 6 of this year. The film follows Task Force X embarking on a dangerous mission to Corto Maltese to destroy a lab running a mysterious program known only as Project Starfish. It also stars Idris Elba, John Cena, Sylvester Stallone, Daniela Melchior, David Dastmalchian, Peter Capaldi, and returning players Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman.

Kinnaman returns as Colonel Rick Flag, Task Force X's field leader. In the film, after the squad unites with the local resistance force on the island nation of Corto Maltese (or rather what's left of them following a massacre due to a misunderstanding), Rick is given a new outfit, which includes an adorable T-shirt of a local character called Ultrabunny. It's a cartoon drawing of a bunny in a cape holding up a sign bearing the Spanish slogan "Obstáculos son oportunidades," which means "Obstacles are opportunities" in English. The character was created by James Gunn himself.

Apparently, nearly everyone on the set was an artist. Previously on his Twitter, James Gunn shared a spectacular drawing of Thinker that Peter Capaldi made for his wrap gift and now he has shared the original doodle for Ultrabunny. It's a crude pen sketch, but it definitely has personality. To the right of the drawing is a list of potential slogans for the sign he's holding, which include "The Future is Plaid" and "Will kill for Cash." Check out the post below:

It's difficult to imagine some of the potential Ultrabunny slogans, like "Elvis Saves," making it past the brainstorming stage. A fan, thinking along the same lines, responded to the post asking him which other slogan nearly edged out the final choice. James Gunn replied definitively, saying, "Nothing. Obstacles are opportunities is our mantra on my sets, so 'Obstaculos son oportunidades' was the clear winner."

This post reveals a lot about the director of The Suicide Squad. Not only has James Gunn revealed a glimpse into how involved he was with every minor detail of his film, but he's also allowed fans an Easter egg glimpse into his filmmaking philosophy. If all of this information can be gleaned just from a bunny on a T-shirt, it makes one wonder how much thought went into things like the film's major action sequences.
