Apple's New iPad: Specs, Pricing, Release Date Revealed

Today at the Apple iPhone 13 event the company took time to announce a brand new iPad, one of the most powerful tablets on the market as well as its specs, release date, and price. The new iPad has been long-awaited as one of the flagship tablets available to consumers and has seen big feature updates in recent years including Apple Pencil support, improved displays, and additional functionality. This new iPad further improves on its predecessors in many of the areas where Apple's tables already lead the way.

The new iPad features a 10.2-inch retina display and will use the A13 processor chip which is 20% speedier than the previous A12, making this the most rapid Apple tablet to date. The A13 chips will allow the iPad to be three times faster than the most powerful Chromebooks and six times faster than the top Android tablets. This processor speed boost will allow for more intense games to be played on the big tablet screen, enhance productivity in high-intensity apps such as those which produce 3D renders or edit video, and should make the whole iPad experience a bit smoother all around.

The front camera boasts a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a field of view of 122 degrees allowing crisp and clear video calls. The iPad will also see the use of Center Stage, which was initially featured on the iPad Pro. Center Stage automatically detects people and the focus of the call and adjusts the frame to best keep what's happening in the call at the forefront, automatically zooming and panning as required. This feature which can also be used on the outer-facing camera will be available on communications applications FaceTime, Zoom, BlueJeans, and Webex, with more applications likely to join that lineup. Social media applications such as DoubleTake and TikTok will also make use of this feature.

Another feature announced for the new iPad is True Tone, which automatically adjusts the color temperature of the screen to match the iPad surroundings, making it more comfortable to read. The iPad will also boast all-day battery and will support the Apple Pencil as well as official and third-party keyboards. The multi-task and quick note functions have also seen improvements to help boost productivity within the workspace when using the iPad.

The new iPad will ship next week for the surprisingly low price of $329 for the base 64GB model. Students can get that at a lower price, at $299. The iPad will be available in grey and silver. Preorders will be available now on the Apple Website after the end of the Apple event.  The higher speeds, camera updates, and small improvements will make this a gadget that Apple aficionados won't want to miss.
